Monochromatic dressing was a big hit at this year’s Fashion Week. Head to toe blues, greens, pinks, and, oranges graced the runways at the Gucci, Carolina Herrera, and Stella McCartney shows. Colors are not the only fashion statement to adopt this coming spring 2014 based on the fashion runway turn-out.  Whites and delicates are also regarded as very much “in” for spring 2014. For example embroidered lace and soft fabrics adorned the runway at Valentino’s show. Even Emilio Pucci put his love for color on hold to add some pure white to his usual vibrant multi-chromatic showroom.

If colors or all white is not your style there is no need to fret. Black and white remain fashion perrenials. Designers showed off the slender figures of their models with caged frocks showing just enough skin but not too much. This woven “peek-a-boo” look was highlighted by the Versace, Louis Vuitton, Celine, and Nina Ricci shows to name a few.

“Geisha glory” is also regarded as an emerging fashion trend.  Many designers recognized this trend and featured an Eastern look integrated into their collections. Etro, known for its fun and frisky use of colors, chose to focus on reds, blacks, and greens in a flattering and chic pan-Asian style.  Mui Mui even took on this new Asian trend with a beautiful red flowing dress embellished with a black abstract pattern.

One of the most talked-about shows from Fall Fashion Week 2013 was that of American fashion designer Ralph Lauren. This show at Fashion Week marked Lauren’s 80th show. He chose this time to stray a little from his signature preppy all-American look and ventured into Spanish-themed frills which was well received with many enthralled by the length of his real life chic looks.

If you thought leather was just for the Fall and Winter—think again. The material was not just used to embellish outfits, but in many cases encompassed the entire look. Leather trousers and crop-tops strutted down the runways at shows like Reed Krakoff and Jason Wu.

This year, designers also reinvented the pastel “shabby chic” look of floral patterns. Neons and black color blocking added drama which helped give petals a more sophisticated and grown up look. Peter Pilotto featured a skin-tight black dress covered in dramatic reds and blues, while Dries van Noten muted his floral story with dark blues and army greens.

Hair styles ranged from traditional long flowing locks at Rebecca Taylor’s show, to green and pink teased looks from Zac Posen. The Blonds show had one of the most memorable hair styles, with each model wearing a very large blonde bun hair piece at the top of their heads. It was dramatic, sleek, and most certainly memorable. Rag and Bone took home the most memorable lipstick award for the week. Revlon makeup artist Gucci Westman and wife of Rag and Bone designer David Neville decided it was time for the first non-neutral lip seen at a Rag and Bone show. This neon orange looked visible from long distance and certainly was an eye grabber.
