The MOMS & Serta Mattresses Hosted a MAMARAZZI® “Breakfast in Bed” Screening Event Celebrating New Film MOTHER’S DAY

The MOMS Denise Albert and Melissa Musen Gerstein, with Serta Mattresses, hosted a comfy morning Mamarazzi® Event and conversation with Kate Hudson and Garry Marshall on Thursday, April 28th, 2016 at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center. The event brought together influential moms and media for a special advance screening of new film Mother’s Day, which is a celebration of mothers everywhere. This big-hearted comedy invites us all to enjoy the laughter, tears and love as three generations come together in the week leading up to Mother’s Day.

Before the screening, guests gathered outside the theater for interactive displays with event co-host Serta Mattresses. Guests were offered delectable nibbles from Chef Bailey, as well as a chance to try Serta’s comfort, support, and temperature regulation beds. Immediately following the screening, Kate Hudson and Garry Marshall sat down for a Q&A with The MOMS Denise Albert and Melissa Musen Gerstein. The Q&A mainly revolved around motherhood challenges and joys – from the baby’s early years to technology dilemmas with tweens. Kate Hudson spoke about her two children and the challenges as a mother to leave her childrens‘ side when they were babies. She said she barely left her firstborn Ryder for the first 2,5 years of his life but that it has been a bit easier with her second child Bingham.

When discussing tweens, Hudson said that she definitely sees a difference in how her son Ryder has started to get more involved in trends, caring about social status and what clothes to wear. She described her son Ryder‘s social media prescence as “wonderfully terrifying” in that while it is slightly terrifying to have your child exposed to all the likes of social media, the actress said it is also wonderful to see what kind of character your child is growing up to be.

Also a topic of discussion was technology in the home, and Hudson noted that while it can be great and stimulating for the child’s intellect, it can also have an adverse effect where “it stops the kids connectivity and intimacy and sometimes we need to slow all of that down.” She added that it is important for her to have that technology-free time in her home at times, but admitted lightheartedly that she may not always be so good at staying away from technology herself: “No I’m a Mom, I can do whatever I want!“

Lastly, when asked about her own Mother‘s Day plans, Hudson said “We usually just get together every year, me, my mom and all the kids and we just celebrate together as a family. The kids alway bring me breakfast in the morning.”

Garry Marshall also offered some insights to the background of the film and its topics of parental acceptance and friendship between women. He joked that womens‘ friendships are so much more fascinating than mens‘, in that women can have an argument and then go shopping an hour later, while men who have an argument can end up not speaking for 20 year.

Marshall also mentioned his own mother, who was a a dance teacher and an inspiration. He lovingly mentioned that she used to say that “when you are sad, you should go make somebody laugh and that will cheer you up” and he added that that is exactly what he has been doing for “all these years.”
