CELEBRATING NEW FILM FLOWER SHOP MYSTERY: DEARLY DEPOTTED
THE MOMS with Kidbox & Chevy Tri-State hosted a Mamarazzi® Eventand a conversation with Brooke Shields on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016 at the Park Avenue Screening room. The event brought together influential moms and media for a special advance screening of the new film, Flower Shop Mystery: Dearly Depotted.
Before the screening, guests gathered outside the theater to learn about Kidbox. Kidbox is the first kids’ personalized style box that delivers parents a convenient way to dress kids in cool brands at meaningful savings, and a mission to clothe children in need. Immediately following the screening, Brooke Shields sat down for a Q & A with The MOMS Denise Albert where they discussed her new movie in which she acted and executively produced Flower Shop Mystery: Dearly Depotted.
The discussion with Brooke included how she got into the producer role “I told them I would only do the movies if they let me executive produce. It’s amazing what happens when you ask” and how challenging the behind-the-camera role can be [On executive producing] “It’s exhausting. After everything I have to do, I still have to memorize ten pages a night. I basically worked 12-15 hours a day”.
The discussions also circled around Brooke’s children and how she explains to them about being away while she shoots “This is what mommy also does. It’s fulfilling to me, I have to work as well”. About social media, Brooke said about her older daughter on Instagram “she has a snapchat and Instagram and now she’s asking me for a finsta. It’s harmless, but I lord over her. I have all of her passwords and she has to ask me before she posts anything”. Phones are not allowed in the family’s cars: “My husband always tells my kids I want you to be bored. We have a thing where we all get two songs each”.
The topic also touched on kids growing into the tween age and the anxiety of letting them get out on their own and be with friends. Brooke about her daughter walking to school: “This is the opportunity for me to trust you but I don’t trust other people. If she doesn’t text me the minute she gets there, I will take away the phone. Think of how many snapchat stories you’ll lose in 24 hours”. Brooke’s thoughts on pursuing modelling at a young age: “When they’re young, modeling can be fun. It gets dangerous when they get older and hey start to believe in their own hype and it’s something other kids can be mean about”.
How to u teach work ethic? Brooke noted that “Hopefully it’s by example to a certain extent. But it’s not what they’re listening to all day with other kids. They don’t want for anything so I have to find a way to balance that with talking about it. They want to be taught I think. I say please and thank you so they do but I also beat it into their heads before they could even say please and thank you”.
“I was always that little kid to volunteer to be the funny class clown. I did 27 shows w bob hope when I was younger and that’s when I really learned the choreography of comedy from some of the funniest people. If these hallmark mysteries continue, I will probably direct because I know the team and you need to know the team around you. I like producing because it’s nice to have leverage instead of being overruled all the time as an actor. You also have to pick your battles which I don’t like because I like to win all of them. You have to balance what you really want by compromising other things” said Brooke.
Lastly, Brooke talked about her involvement in the movie Flower Shop Mystery: Dearly Depotted: “I learned that when you have a gut feeling about something you’re probably right. I’ve grown being more confident as a producer because it’s something I’ve never done before. I’m learning it’s ok to not try to please everyone all the time.”
