The Iciest Event of the Summer: Inaugural Hamptons Jewelry Show

The Hamptons lived up to its reputation as America’s preeminent playground for the super-rich and famous at the inaugural Hamptons Jewelry Show which this 2018 welcomed over 3,200 attendees. The spectacular 20,000 sq. ft. Jewelry Pavilion at the Southampton Elks Fairgrounds showcased the finest jewelry and luxury collectibles from 90 exhibitors, with pieces ranging in price from $300 to a $1.6 million massive yellow diamond ring. One of the biggest events of the summer season attracted distinguished members of Hamptons society with an overwhelming response from guests stating they would be likely to attend the event next year.

This demonstrates that there is a viable and voracious marketplace interest for these items in the summer season.”

The Hamptons Jewelry Show provided an innovative marketplace and jewelry experience which easily filled the void left by events such as “Super Saturday” and exceeded the expectations of designers, dealers and attendees alike. Dealers were appreciative of gaining a direct-to-consumer channel which put a face to the purchase of their luxury loving buyers.

The stellar remarks received in a post-show survey (Attendees Survey Results 2018) showed a sizable 82% of attendees rated the quality of pieces to be from “very good” to “excellent”, with 65% of attendees saying they are considering or had already made a purchase.

The first-of-its-kind event attracted up to 750 fashion-forward and stylish jewelry and art patrons during the Opening Night Preview which unveiled $40 million in remarkable jewelry and luxury art collectibles to the Hamptons elite. Socialites and distinguished patrons walked the red carpet before perusing the 90 exclusive dealers from around the world exhibiting their finest wares to the public. In the spirit of giving, the opening night beneficiary was The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital dedicated to helping breast cancer patients and their families cope with the physical and emotional aspects of breast cancer.

The luxury shopping extravaganza encompassed diamonds, fine jewelry and luxury artworks from leading jewelry industry names. Top international dealers included: The Rapaport Collection, Lika Behar Collection, Leslie Danzis Fine, Soho Gem, Nigaam Jewels, Hammerman Jewels of New York, JBA (Jewelry Buyers of America). The best in antique, estate and vintage jewelry included: Rosaria Varra Fine Jewelry and Southern Classic Jewelry. Superior craftsmanship was displayed by skilled artisans and designers including: Alexandra Mor, Pamela Huizenga, Erica Molinari, Deka Jewelry, Pat Flynn, Inc., Joon Han and Leslie Danzis Fine. The Hamptons Jewelry Show was received as one of the biggest event of the 2018 Hamptons summer season, and jewelry enthusiasts did not want to leave without their luxury purchases.

Hamptons Jewelry Show collectors and patrons also had the opportunity to meet Haute Joaillerie Designer and Artistic Director Alexandra Mor for one-on-one custom design consultations. The exclusive private design meetings were held in a sleek, statement, boxed-in black booth. Taking a hands-on approach, Alexandra Mor assisted each new patron as if they have been a client for years. Her expertise and artistic expression were demonstrated in each consultation as she found the perfect balance between superior craftsmanship, mindfulness and sustainable luxury, igniting each new client’s inner poetic compass and eye for design. Handcrafted pieces that were on display included: the Andrean Blue Opal and Diamond Double Finger Ring, the Diamond & Cabochon Opal Curved Cuff Bracelet and Snowflake and Moonstone Long Earrings. Alexandra Mor also led an enlightening discussion regarding jewelry collecting trends in a sustainable world. During the presentation, Alexandra Mor shared her expert perspective on what to look for when evaluating jewelry and secrets to building a collection.

Heritage Auctions, the third largest auctioneers in the country, welcomed plenty of curious collectors to their VIP Lounge on the second night, Appraisal Day. Heritage Auctions experts, Jill Burgum, jewelry and timepieces, Diane D’amato, luxury handbags, Kathleen Guzman, fine art and Elyse Luray, sports, comics and collectibles appraised up to two items per person.

Hamptonites were aptly named “Forty Niners” for The Hamptons Great Gold Rush Jubilee by the third night. Striking it rich, each “Forty Niners” attendee received a $250 gift certificate to shop the converted Jewelry Pavilion, replicating Sutter’s Mill in 1849. The memorable two-hour “mad rush” fundraiser benefitted The Retreat Domestic Violence Shelter dedicated to providing domestic violence and sexual assault services across Eastern Long Island.

Still in it to win the best in bargains at the luxury shopping extravaganza, the “Crack The Vault” Networking Party brought together jewelry and art enthusiasts to meet and mingle over drinks and hors d’oeuvres. The challenge to crack open the highly secured vault, provided by Empire Safes, by way of a winning ticket secretly passed out to one lucky attendee was met with an uproar of applause when Genesis Alvarez won. The lucky attendee cracked open the vault to retrieve a breathtaking Hammerman Jewelers colorful three-strand 18k yellow gold bezel set bracelet with over 39 carats; worth $7,500.

Following the “Crack The Vault” challenge, New York City and Long Island chapters of the Young Presidents Organization hosted a Hamptons Bling Fling Social with 90 esteemed members and their families in attendance. The uber affluent members, representing a global community of young chief executives and leaders, explored luxury artworks on display, spoke with exhibitors and brought amazing purchases home.

Art collectors came together to honor the Collector of the Year, Arthur Wiener, a widely renowned real estate businessman and philanthropist. Weiner is respected as a passionate collector of the fired glass arts and maintains a diverse collection of ceramics and glass ranging from: 19th century British pottery to porcelain, and contemporary ceramic art from the Ardmore Studio in South Africa, plus American studio glass. He led a fascinating panel discussion sharing his experience and secrets to collecting pottery, porcelain and glass art, plus the emergence of contemporary artists and the national trend of glass art collecting.

Arthur Weiner welcomed guests to his chic waterfront estate in Westhampton for the official Hamptons Jewelry Show Art on Fire Charity Soiree. Celebrating the successful first year at the post-show party, many distinguished guests toasted to the inaugural Hamptons Jewelry Show. In museum-like fashion, guests were mesmerized by Wiener’s collection of fossils, ceramic arts and world-class Chihuly glass while enjoying food, beverages and the spectacular view from the elegant property. The Art on Fire Charity Soiree benefitted the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts in South Florida.

The Hamptons Jewelry Show is the brainchild of Rick Friedman, who has pioneered and produced the popular ArtHamptons, and the Hamptons Contemporary Design and Décor Show. For the past 14 years, he has helped to pioneer art collecting and interior design in the Hamptons. Now he turns his attention to making jewelry collecting “the new sport of the Hamptons”.

As a popular lifelong resident of Sag Harbor, Eleni has pioneered the category of jewelry sales and design in the Hamptons. Beginning in 1980, she has owned and operated her own fine jewelry retail stores, as well as designed, sourced, and manufactured her own award-winning jewelry lines. As a small business owner, Eleni has both exhibited and attended many jewelry fairs and trade shows over the years. With an extensive background in casting, soldering gold jewelry, designing, setting precious stones, Eleni has taught jewelry design locally, and curated many art/craft/jewelry exhibitions in the Hamptons.
