The contemporary eatery crafts rustic Latin American fare and signature seafood dishes, making it an exclusive dining destination on the Upper East Side as welll as a cornerstone of New York’s Restaurant Row in Hell’s Kitchen. In Resident Magazine’s October 2018 issue, Medina, who originates from Mexico, and Barroz, from Argentina, share La Pulperia’s deeply rooted cultural history. The design concept was adapted from general stores, or “pulperias”, which served as drinking establishments but functioned as a community gathering place during the 1800s in rural South America.
The Upper East Side eatery incorporates the rustic beauty of Latin America, featuring reclaimed Brazilian wood on the ceilings plus walls, handcrafted Mexican tiles, and a unique shelving unit inspired by South American cocktelerias which displays wine, fresh produce and nolstagic goods from South America’s past.
Today, La Pulperia embraces the beauty of New York City’s melting pot, crafting seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes with culinary influences hailing from Spain, Italy, Russia, and France. The menu features classic and seasonal fare plus a delicious drink menu including specialty cocktails, margaritas, sangrias, and an extensive selection of wines.
The cover party was one of many Fall festivities leading into the traditional Mexican celebration of Halloween, El Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) at the end of October.
